Buying SSL certificates for Japanese domains (.JP)

undefinedOn April, 2015 Symantec Website Security and its related brands, GeoTrust, RapidSSL, and Thawte, now all owned by DigiCert, announced that it was raising pricing for all Japanese SSL products. The following SSL enrollment attributes will trigger adjusted pricing for Japanese SSL orders:

  • A CSR generated with a .jp TLD
  • A company or organization based in Japan
  • Any administrative, technical or billing contact located in Japan

What you should do if you need an SSL certificate for Japan

As a DigiCert partner we are forced to comply with the surcharge for SSL orders for Japan. Before you buy an SSL certificate we recommend that you stop and contact us first. We'll let you know what your options are we can generate a special quote for Japanese pricing.

Are there any alternatives?

Yes! We believe there's no reason to pay higher prices for Japanese certs. We offer SSL certificates from our partner Comodo too. You can purchase a Comodo cert for any Japanese .jp domain and the price will be the same as our regular pricing. Easy peasy!
